Indo-Pak 'Dosti'
Pakistani rock group Junoon and India's king of bhangra, Daler Mehndi, performed
together for the first time for over 10,000 fans at London's Wembley Arena on
September 20 to sing the friendship anthem Yaaron Yehi Dosti Hai. It was all for
a good cause, to encourage fraternity and peace between the people of Pakistan
and India. The first major Indo-Pak concert of this kind was filmed by Zee TV
and will be aired shortly, internationally. Sukhbir and Zille Huma rounded out
the show, which had fans from across the subcontinent and the UK swaying to the
bhangra and rock beats.
In addition to their classic favourites Sayonee and Jazba-i-Junoon, Junoon
performed their latest single Pappu Yaar, from the new album Dewaar. "The people
of the subcontinent want peace and to move ahead, joining the rest of the world
in progress," said Salman Ahmad, standing arm-in-arm with Daler Mehndi.
Junoon has returned to Pakistan for a countrywide tour promoting Dewaar, and
will be recording a new video for the song Taara Jala. The group's song Garaj
Baras has been selected as part of the soundtrack of Pooja Bhatt's upcoming film
Paap, for which they were recently filming in Mumbai. The movie will be launched
in December 2003.
