Junoon Play For Pakistan
& India Peace
Pakistani rock outfit Junoon have been at the forefront of peace campaigns and
attempts to unite India and Pakistan through music. The band is to stage a
concert, which will bring together many Pakistani artists and one of India's
most popular singers Anaida.
The artists will perform alongside each other at a concert in the Pakistani city
of Karachi this coming Saturday. Although the world is amid many conflicts
including the Iraq war and the ongoing crisis in Kashmir the band believe that
it is the right time to call for peace between the two countries.
Junoon’s singer Ali Azmat told the BBC: ’The world has seen too much blood since
11th September, 2001 and too many burnings of effigies in protest rallies’.
‘People to people contact is the best voice for peace.’…. ‘They will only sing
for peace and will say no to war’.
The singer also announced that they would go to Bangladesh and Dubai for similar
concerts but would also love to go to India if it would be allowed.
The band has constantly fought for the underprivileged, the oppressed and the
corruption that exists in Pakistan and against the nuclear weapons build up in
South-East Asia. They have also spoken out in favour of literacy programmes and
anti-Aids initiatives in their country.
